Congratulations to BOFA member Daniel Fox who won this year's Allegany Arts Association's 11th Annual Poetry Contest/Slam.
On April 19, 2018, he competed with other poets at the Wellsville Library. His poem "Out of the Migrant Streams Endless Floods" was voted the best of the presentations. Angelica Community Radio (WRAQ, 92.7 FM) broadcast the poetry from this contest on April 20 and 21, 2018. Selections of Dan's poetry can be seen on weekly rotations at the Belfast Public Library in Belfast, NY. Look for a new poem every Saturday. Dan read his popular poem, "Out of the Migrant Streams Endless Flood, pointing out we are all immigrants. He also read, "The Journey" and a short poem "A Voice We Need" exhorting women to speak and be heard.
OPPORTUNITIES FOR CREATORS
Are you a painter? Know a painter? Genesee Valley Conservancy will give you a free canvas to paint a work inspired by the Genesee Valley! Contact them for details!
"Free 12”x12” canvases are being distributed throughout the spring and summer to artists to produce a work inspired by the Genesee Valley. Other than the inspiration, everything else is up to the artist. The style, scene, and method will be determined by each individual artist and their unique creativity.
The goal of the project, titled Genesee Valley 100 for the number of canvases to be painted, is to showcase the many unique artists in the region while highlighting the beauty and significance of the Genesee Valley....Works will be collected until October 20th and then displayed in digital and physical shows for the public before works are returned to the artists...More information on Genesee Valley 100 can be found on the Conservancy website. Artists interested should contact Jim with a brief description of their idea for the project and to arrange receiving their canvas. This project is being supported in part by the Genesee Valley Council on the Arts grant program and Steuben Trust Company.Details can be found here."

Americas greatest author and humorist will be brought to life through the considerable talents of actor Mike Randall! He began impersonating Americas greatest author at the age of seventeen! Over forty years and more than two thousand performances later, Mike Randall continues to enjoy his close encounter with Mark Twain. He has brought Mark Twain Live to dinner theaters, regional theaters and historical societies around the country delivering a breathtaking performance of remarkable subtlety and depth. Several hours of makeup combined with the actors mannerisms, speech and Twain's actual words create a startling realistic portrait of Americas original stand-up comic Mark Twain! Mike Randall is the official Mark Twain of the annual Huck Finn Jubilee in Victorville, California and the Annual Mark Twain Birthday Bash & Symposium in Buffalo NY. He is also the only Mark Twain impersonator to be acknowledged by the Daughters of the America Revolution for his authenticity. Mike Randall is the senior Meteorologist at WKBW-TV Channel 7 in Buffalo, NY. Tickets are $10.00 and may be purchased at https:// www.brownpapertickets.com/ event/3373969or call (585) 209-5512. Tickets also may be purchased at The Palmer Event Center and Opera House at 12 W. Main St, Cuba, NY.

"The Summer Arts Festival programming runs from the end of the school year until the beginning of the next school year, typically July through August but some classes begin in late June. Class schedules are made to fit the needs of each community, the availability of the instructor and availability of a public location. Participating locations could include local libraries, community centers, schools, fire halls, churches and fraternal organizations. To keep costs at a minimal, free space or donated space is best and must be open to the public. Private property is not allowed.
Instructors are paid an hourly rate plus cost of materials. A Class Outline, age range for students and number of students if class size needs to be limited should be provided. Classes could include drawing, painting, printing, book art, collage, music, movement and so much more.
If you are interested or know someone who is, please contact me at:
mwpike11@gmail.com or call 585-466-6210 or 585-268-5710 and leave a message.
Sincerely yours,
Molly Pike Riccardi"
